Blood Moon: A Total Lunar Eclipse

Astronomy educator Bob Reichman will discuss the total lunar eclipse, called "Blood Moon," taking place May 15-16. His indoor lunar tour will help you better understand the concepts of Moon phases, eclipses and tides. He'll share vivid NASA images of the lunar terrain, Apollo landing sites and a glimpse of the upcoming Artemis missions and NASA's first return to the Moon in over 50 years. Weather permitting, we'll go outside and set up a 12" Dobsonian telescope to preview the waxing gibbous Moon before the upcoming eclipse. We will identify and discuss other bright stars and constellations we can find as we continue our conversation about the cosmos.  For those who wish to participate at home for the indoor part of the presentation, a zoom link will be sent to you the day of the event.

Bob Reichman has been educating family audiences on all things astronomy since 2009, the International Year of Astronomy, and the 400th anniversary of Galileo first pointing a telescope to the stars. He's entered his third year on an advisory mission with NASA and the Girl Scouts Heart of NJ Council and was awarded the Girl Scout Honor Pin in 2021.
