The Chatham Colony Association 1922-1969
In 1922 a group of Eastern European and Russian Jews living in NYC purchased 150 acres of land in Chatham Township and established a community. Portions of the community were owned in common, while each family owned their own homes. Although this was a revolutionary idea then, one would call it a condo association today. Enjoy a showing of the 1996 recording of the Chatham Township Historical Society presentation made by Bea Gritzen and Blanche Thorner Blumenfeld, both daughters of the Colony. Bea and Blanche describe the evolution of the Colony and life within the Colony. Blanche will be available to answer questions after the film. To register, email the Chatham Township Historical Society at HistoryNow2020@gmail.com.
The program will be in person at the library. If you cannot attend in person, you can join by Zoom.
