One of the most important pieces of the college application is the essay. Breakaway Prep will conduct a three-session workshop at the library that will cover everything a student needs to understand how to write an effective college essay.

Session 1: In the first session, we discuss the college application process and the role of essays in that process. Then we will begin the brainstorming process so that every student has a chance to write an essay about something that is near and dear to them AND can go a long way toward convincing a college that you are the student they have been looking for.

Session 2: In the second session, we begin the drafting process and the mechanics of writing a top-notch college essay. This will include looking at essays of admitted students so that workshop attendees can get a real sense of what a college essay looks like.  The students will write first drafts of their essays and will submit for review before the final session. The Breakaway Prep team will provide feedback and markups so the students can then work on the revisions and edits in the third session.

Session 3: In the third and final session, the students will get their edited essays back and begin work on their final drafts. By the end of the session, they will have an essay that will be ready to be sent to any college that a student will choose to apply.  And they will apply with the confidence that they know they have drafted an essay that will get them noticed in a stack of thousands of other applicants.

Limit: 12 students entering their Senior year - must be able to attend all 3 sessions
