ESL Reading Group: Intermediate+

ESL students will read Brooklyn is the coming-of-age story of Eilish Lacey, a young Irish woman who emigrates to Brooklyn NY in the early 1950’s to find a better life.  Battling severe homesickness, she tries to find work, friends, love, and a new sense of self.  Brooklyn is the poignant story of an ordinary person who navigates loneliness and uncertainty, while facing the difficult choice between her past life in Ireland and her future in America. Reading group participants are expected to read up to 25-30 pages per week.
