Program Description

Event Details

This group for ESL students will read and discuss Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri, a collection of nine short stories that explore the experiences of Indian immigrants adjusting to life in America. Winner of the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, the moving and beautifully written stories are filled with characters searching for love, identity, and family in a new world.  Registration is required and by invitation only.

This pilot reading group is limited to a small group of existing ESL students.  The goal is to help students become more comfortable with reading in English and to give them the tools to venture into the world of unabridged literature in English. Should these pilot reading groups be successful, the programs could potentially be offered to all of our ESL students.
