ESL Reading Group: Low Intermediate

This group for ESL students will read and discuss Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo, a story about Opal, whose  other left when she was young.  Opal is lonely after she and her father move to a new town but when she adopts Winn-Dixie, a stray dog with lots of personality, she meets others in the town who face struggles of their own. In the end, Winn-Dixie helps Opal form friendships and gain a sense of community.  Registration is required and by invitation only.

This pilot reading group is limited to a small group of existing ESL students.  The goal is to help students become more comfortable with reading in English and to give them the tools to venture into the world of unabridged literature in English. Should these pilot reading groups be successful, the programs could potentially be offered to all of our ESL students.
